Video Production 1
This course will teach students all basic aspects of television production, including scripting and storyboarding, directing, camera techniques, editing, and designing graphics. Students will further develop public speaking skills as well as learn all aspects of working on a video production team. Project-based lessons include creating video montages, PSA’s, commercials, and mini documentaries.

Video Production 2
This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to expand their skills in research, writing, speaking, and videography while experiencing the challenges and opportunities of broadcast production. Students will work independently as well as in group production teams to select topics of interest, produce documentaries, music videos, talk shows, and many other live tv shows. Students will discover the diverse opportunities for employment in the visual communications field. Careers include, but are not limited to Interactive Media, Entertainment, TV Production, Broadcasting, and Video Education.

Sports Broadcasting
This class is designed to teach the basics of video production and how they can be applied to the world of sports. Students will film live sporting events, edit highlight videos, and create news-style features on athletes and coaches. Students will learn all the crew positions on a live studio show and learn how to create graphics for on-air broadcasts. They will be expected to fulfill homework assignments that will require them to film sporting events throughout the school year. A love of sports and a desire to be creative using the art of videography is a must.

Broadcast Journalism
This writing-intensive course blends traditional journalism with the rapidly evolving field of media studies. Students will learn the art of writing and editing news stories, feature stories, sports and entertainment for the schools tv news show called “Knight Life.” The show will be broadcast to the community and aired on the local cable access television (Blue Knight Television). In addition to being a writing-intensive course, students are expected to be comfortable with public speaking and being “behind” and “in front” of the camera.

Television Internship
This course is designed to foster independent videography with the emphasis on skills acquired in all aspects of video production. Students will be given the opportunity, trust, and responsibility to script, write, edit, and produce programming for the local cable access network (Blue Knight Television). They will be expected to fulfill homework assignments that will require them to film sports, theater performances and other events throughout the school year. The main goal for this internship is for each student to develop a video portfolio for college or to secure a position in the Visual Communication industry.

Radio Club
The WSDH radio club provides students with the opportunity to produce and broadcast their own show live on FM radio and internet streaming, or in a pre-recorded podcast style. The station and podcast booth features top of the line recording and broadcasting equipment so that you can create a professionally produced and polished show. Students who choose to go live on the air get the unique opportunity to do a real FM broadcast on 91.5 FM, which reaches all of the upper-Cape. Students who record podcasts can upload their shows to all major streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more. There is also the ability for students to go live during sports games to do real-time announcing over the airwaves.
